Because where you spend matters
In October 2020, 70 businesses across Stroud and beyond are took part in Stroud Fiver Fest. As part of Bee Stroud activities, we had a successful Stroud Fiver Fest in June 2021 too!
If every adult in Stroud spent just £5 per week in a local, independent business rather than online or at a big supermarket, it could add an extra £4.5million into our local economy. That's more jobs, better facilities and a nicer place for us all to live. The Stroud Fiver Fest participants are making it easier to spent that £5 by bringing you some amazing offers, so please GET YOUR FIVERS READY and use our map (when published) to discover each one!
Stroud Fiver Fest is supported by:
From 5th to 12th October 2019 35 independent shops in Stroud took part in the Totally Locally Fiver Fest and we had an even bigger Fiver Fest in February 2020 with a whopping 56 and then 70 in October 2020! As part of the larger Bee Stroud activities, we had 28 participants. Now, in 2022, the Stroud & District Chamber of Trade & Commerce are enabling Fiver Fest not only in Stroud, but Dursley, Nailsworth, Stonehouse and Wotton-under-Edge too!
Businesses within town centres may also feature on the popular Fiver Fest Maps! There are maps for Dursley, Nailsworth, Stonehouse, Stroud and Wotton-under-Edge planned.
IF EVERY ADULT IN STROUD SPENT JUST £5 A WEEK IN OUR INDEPENDENT SHOPS & BUSINESSES, INSTEAD OF ONLINE OR AT THE BIG SUPERMARKETS, IT WOULD BE WORTH AN EXTRA £4.5 MILLION PER YEAR GOING INTO OUR LOCAL ECONOMY, WHICH MEANS MORE JOBS, BETTER FACILITIES AND A NICER PLACE FOR US ALL TO LIVE.
MAKES YOU THINK, DOESN'T IT?!
So, as an independent business, you need to come up with an epic £5 offer. It must be for £5, not £5 off or a percentage discount.
For example, how about offering something that was £6.99 or £5.99 for just £5 during Fiver Fest Week?
If you're a service business, how about offering something like an initial consultation for only £5?

This isn’t a government run or backed by big organisations event - it’s purely a grass roots thing. Shop and business owners across the country getting together and promoting themselves, each other and their town as a whole.
For the previous Stroud Fiver Fests, we have had local radio coverage through BBC Radio Gloucestershire (including a live interview), coverage in the Stroud News and Journal and local business press too.
There have been posters throughout Stroud publicising the event and
participation in an eye-catching and engaging design; social media posts that reach tens of thousands of people across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram;
videos that showcased every business registered as
taking part; a town map of participating
businesses that
encouraged shoppers and families to seek out all the amazing businesses taking
part … and they did!
What do YOU do?
Totally Locally Stroud will collate the list of businesses taking part and putting together a list of what’s on offer and where, on the High Street or in our local area. You need to follow the instructions we give you to load up your offer to the VisitStroud.uk platform, where shoppers and business users can easily find your offers online or via our VisitStroud.uk App.
So……….
We need you to come up with an epic £5 offer. Just always remember – it’s not about shifting old stock, or stuff you can’t get rid of – it’s another excuse for people to explore our town and area finding out about all the great businesses that we have, those on the High Street and those that are a little more hidden away. It also needs to be for £5, not £5 off, a percentage discount or a free gift - it’s about spending £5.
Once we’ve collated the lists and distributed posters please promote, promote, promote! And don’t just promote your offer, have a go at promoting others, that way we’ll all be promoting each other and have a chance of reaching new customers as some of us have big social media reaches, while some of us are just starting out, and people find out about places they may never even knew existed – and one of them could be you!
If you feel that you’re not able to put an offer forward, we’re sure all of your fellow businesses would still be thrilled to bits if you cheer them on and promote where you can, we really can achieve great things if we all work together.
We’ll provide you with posters to display and
material for you to download, window displays would also be lovely
to help spread the word.
